Another Post About Whats Happening in DNA

previousgenetic

As we discussed before in the previous article about personal genetic information, there is exciting news about the human genome and how the cost of a full genomic sequence is coming down rapidly.

Presently, there are more than 1000  DNA genetic tests that are available from testing laboratories. DNA genetic sequening  are used for several reasons for example, pre-implantation genetic diagnosis, prenatal diagnostic testing, newborn screening, presymptomatic testing.

Also, for predicting adult disorders such as Huntington’s disease , presymptomatic testing for estimating the risk of developing adult-onset cancers and Alzheimer’s disease, conformational diagnosis of a symptomatic individual and forensic or identity testing.

There are many legal, social and ethical issues involved in DNA tests. The information from DNA genetic testing can affect the life of the individuals as well as their families. So information should be private and confidential. DNA Genetic testing is a complex process.

Preciously the costs for a full genomic DNA sequence one would pay many thousands of dollars.  Now with the Ion Torrent company announcement that you can read the full article on DNA News.  This is a website, http://DNAnews.org/  that you are going to want to bookmark and  check often.

Next Generation Sequencing (1 of 2) – How to Sequence

Allen Van Deynze, University of California Davis, walks you though the latest in gene sequencing technology. The talk was delivered live at the Tomato Disease Workshop 2010 in Florida, USA, and sponsored by the NIFA funded SolCAP project.

By all means checkout wikipedia on genomics also.
