Where Do You Stand on Natural Gas Fracking?
The process of natural gas well drilling and fracking has been in the news quite a bit lately.
We have been looking in to it locally and thought you might be interested in it also. Seems everyone takes a different stand. What do you think about gas fracking?
Millions of years ago when the jungles that eventually became covered with earth have been decaying forever and that is what produces oil and natural gas. Much of the natural gas gets trapped in a type of loose rock called Marcellus shale and the modern day drilling sytems drill down to the shale area and then use a process called hydro-fracturing or fracking, to open up fissures in the shale allowing the gas to be pumped out.
The fracking process seems complicated but uses a bit of a common sense procedure. Once the bore hole is in place, large quantities of sand and water are pumped down the hole under very controlled high pressure which expands the shale rock and leaves enough of a sand penetration into the fissures to create pockets that the natural gas may seep into and then be drawn to the surface for enrgy use.
With the price of oil rising continuously as it has been for the past many years, it is now cost effective to do this fracking and does help a lot with the amount of energy that we are able to produce here at home, reducing our need to import more gas and oil from foreing countries.
A great website that describes the whole process is Transloading.org and it and covers all about Marcellus Shale Fracking.
